[Boatanchors] new on list with old gear

Yesterday I was given, hopefully restorable to be operable, a Globe
Chief VT 90 and a Central Electronics 20A exciter. So I have a couple
of questions.
There have been modifications done to the VT 90 (I dove into them
right away) with some interesting modifications to the grid circuits on
the 807's. Each tube now has its own bleeder resistor in series with a
choke to ground. An additional trimmer capacitor has been added to
only one of the 807 grids (from terminal 6 of the switch 3A). I have no
documentation on these mods, I suspect that it may have been done to
improve linearity. If there were no known issues with this transmitter
I'm inclined to more or less put it back to the original as per the
manual. Any reason not to? Are there known issues and modifications
that should be done?
With respect to the Central Electronics 20A, my suspicion is that
this was a kit that could be built without phone capability. The
components and controls for phone operation are missing.
Both radios, the VT 90 no so much, will need some parts, are parts
affordable and available?
