That's like saying all Canadian buyers that write checks to U.S. sellers
have some criminal halo over their heads.
Checks issued on a Canadian bank for a U.S. sale, generally have to go
through a clearing center before you (the seller) see the money. It can
take many days to even a few weeks based on past experience.
Today, in my business, all international sales, which include Canada and
Mexico, I only except checks or money orders drawn on a U.S. bank or U.S.
financial institution and only in U.S. funds. This cuts out the clearing
center issue, saves time, and it's easier for U.S. banks to work with
each other. International postal money orders in U.S. funds can also work
but check with postal service for the latest acceptance country list.
I only had one bounced check from a Canadian buyer back in the 90's.
Unfortunately, he died before the check cleared the clearing house
activity and his survivors had closed his Canadian bank account. I
eventually received my payment.
