[Boatanchors] OT: Seller's Beware: What the eBay "Guarantee" really means

I've heard that eBay pretty much sides with the buyer now. I have
never sold much on-line because it can be such a PITA but when I do, I
sell on ham forums and simply ask for either a check or USPS MO.
Everyone always sends the money order and USPS sort of limits the
buyers to USA. I will take a regular check but I always state that
the money has to be in my bank account before I ship the item and that
might take a couple of weeks.

USPS Tracking updates showed the package got there on the 4th and by the 15th had cleared Ecuadorian Customs in Quito. That was the last update. The seller is now insistant about not getting his item and has filed for resolution/refund. eBay tells me that they will deduct the whole amount involved from my PAYPAL account and if not available, will charge my credit card. I spoke at length with one of the eBay phone reps who, in the end, told me it does not matter if the seller really got his item and is lying, it does not matter whether the item was ever delivered or not, it only matters that the buyer has "eBay's Money Back Guarantee" and they only need the buyers testimony to make the decision which will be in the buyers favor. In short, I'm scr_ _ _ _ _ .
