[Boatanchors] UPS trashed receiver

Seems like it might be advisable to insert wording in one's FleaBay auctions to the effect that in the event of loss or damage in shipping, exactly who will be responsible for what.  FleaBay might overrule it if it came to a match but at least it makes conditions clear in advance.  I've never thought about doing that before.

Tough call. That’s one of the reasons why I dislike being a seller.
In fact I am doing a lot less selling of radios, particularly heavy ones.

Too often The buyer has you over a barrel!

Bryan ... What's the normal practice when something is shipped?  Is the seller or the buyer taking a chance on damage occuring?    The person I'm dealing with has turned into a real jerk, claiming I bear all the responsibility for him getting his money back and he has none.  I told him he could have told UOS when they picked it up for inspection to return it to him and not to me.  Now he either wants his money back or for me to send the radio to him again at my expense so he can eiy scrap it or try to fix it.  He told me to file the claim, even though UPS says either the shipper or recipient can file.  It seems to me that the buyer should file because they want insurance in order to recover what they paid for an item.

You have to PUSH them hard on the damage clAim and INSIST that they pay! It’s a matter of principle. The more times that people give into them on this crap the more they will do it.

Federal Express has started doing the same thing even though they used to play out nicely 20 years ago when they damaged something.

With UPS you have always had to appeal the initial denial of claim.
No FEDEX is playing the same game.

You have to be firm but they will pay out. The last time, I had to file a complaint against federal express with the Better Business Bureau after they tried to cheat me. I got almost all of the money back that was owed to me. Their insurance game has changed, however and it is not as easy as it used to be 15 or 20 years ago. They don’t even call it insurance anymore. There policy writers and lawyers are very very sneaky. Like a snake in the grass in my experience!

I am scrapping out a Lafayette HA 350 receiver that UPS managed to trash while shipping it.  They denied the damage claim, saying essentially even though the box was marked fragile, the are entitled to throw it around and pile other 50 lb boxes on it and squash it and it's not their fault if it's destroyed.  Anyhow, if you have any projects you might be able to use parts from it for let me know and I'll see if I can salvage them.  Knobs, a meter, tubes, power supply components, etc.
