In the case of my DX-40, it was a short from the high voltage winding to
ground. This was 1965.

IIRC, replaced it with a transformer out the WRL catalog, this was 1965
or so.  Had to add a small filament transformer to run the driver 6CL6.

30 years later, when feeling a bit flush, ordered and installed the Dahl
replacement.
