But I would still rather have a Collin's S-Line station at today's prices (eBay) than a modern RICEBOX!

Actually, when compared with the average wage in, say, 1962 when the Collins S-3 line was introduced, using the calculator at
https://westegg.com/inflation/
the cost of amateur radio equipment has never been so low!
For example, in 1962 the plain 75S-3 cost $680 which equates to $5603 today. The 32S-3 cost $750 in 1962 which equates to $6180 today. The 516F-2 cost right at $400 in 1962 which equates to $3296 today. That totals $15,079 in today's money!
The Heath SB-301 cost $260, as a kit, in 1966 which equates to $1997 today. The SB-401 cost $285 in 1966 which equates to $2189 today. The SB-600 cost $17.95 in 1966 which equates to $138 today. That means, if you purchased your SB-Line today, that it would cost a total of $4324 today and you still had to assemble the equipment.
"Modern" equipment has considerably more features and at a lower comparable price today.
Unfortunately, it is too easy to compare the absolute dollar when the equipment was introduced to the absolute dollar of today. However, we overlook inflation, etc., which means that we are comparing apples to oranges.

I'm shocked when I see the prices of modern RICEBOXES!
It seems to be becoming a rich mans hobby.
For the amount of money they are asking I would rather buy a complete
Collin's S-Line station. Right now I have a Benton Harbor S-Line minus the
linear. I'm pretty satisfied with it.
