I finally got to install the re-worked reduction
drive
in the RME-45 receiver.

The result:  While the tuning problems are
improved, 
it is not to the degree I'd hoped, nor enough of
an
improvement to recommend going to the trouble.  
Guess I'll keep hoping for a junker with a
less-worn
reduction drive.
Some ideas don't "pan-out."  Oh well at least know
we know one thing that won't work.
