Subject: [Boatanchors] Dial Cord again
Following a discussion of sources for new dial cord material I bought 100yds
of 45lb test braided dacron line (Meatmaster brand name, by Gudebrod). But
recently I saw that Surplus Shed had some & ordered a pack. Link to the item
is here:
https://www.surplusshed.com/pages/item/M3091.html
SurpShed's is 1/32" diameter & Meatmaster's is about that thick & just a bit
wider (not perfectly circular). It seems to be a white (nylon?) core with
black woven jacket. The materials are some sort of synthetic, they melt
rather than char or burn like cotton, etc., would. The package date is 1967
but the stuff is still very strong. I don't have a scale for checking a
breaking strength. Tried on a dial shaft, it seemed to grip as well as the
Meatmaster stuff.
Thought I'd report on this in case someone else might want to give it a try.
