[Boatanchors] Replacing Meter Shunt Johnson Valiant

Would anybody like to have another valiant? I have one for sale. I would really rather swap it for a good Johnson Ranger.

Best regards - Bry Carling, AF4K

I replaced all the shunts in my Valiant.
They are not resistors...they are lengths of nichrome wire.
You can't solder very well to nichrome so it depends upon the builder
wrapping the wire around the lugs.
You can get good precision resistors from Mouser.

Gregg -- Isn't R57 for the Grid current? Personally, I wouldn't worry
about 5.1 ohms. A modern 5 ohm 5% resistor will probably be much more
accurate than a 5.1 ohm 5% resistor that came with the unit.

I didn't have to replace R57 on my Valiant, but I probably would have used a
standard metal oxide resistor.

BTW, check your plate and modulator current shunts and especially the
grounds associated with them.

I need to replace the meter shunt in the plate circuit [R57}. It is a
5.1 ohm, 3% resistor. Anyone have any recommendations on what type of
resistor to replace it with? Metal film? Resistors have come a long
way since this thing was built. Way too many choices.

Thanks!
