[Boatanchors] Testing a crystal

Use a signal generator that you can read the frequency or use a frequency 
counter hooked to the secondary output.  I use a URM 25F with the high 
output to the input of a signal generator.

Hook the hot lead from the signal generator to a 56K resistor then to one 
pin of the crystal.  Hook the ground from the generator to the other pin of 
the crystal.

Attach a 3 pf capacitor to the hot pin of the crystal then to the input of a 
X 10 scope probe.  Probe ground goes to the ground pin of the crystal

  Tune the signal generator for a null on the scope.  That is the frequency 
of the crystal.  The accuracy will depend on your frequency counter or the 
readout on the sig. gen.
