[Boatanchors] Hallicrafters SX-100 Mark 2A

I've had several SX-100's over the years. I don't recall ever seeing a
manual specific to the Mark 2A model.

One SX-100 I had suffered from a very small amount of dial backlash on the
band spread cap. I was convinced it was a loose dial cable. I found suitable
dial cable at a local craft store. The steel cable was used for making
beaded necklaces. Worked great but replacing it, as per the manual, did not
fix my backlash problem.

Turned out that the pulley set screw(s) on the band spread variable cap were
just ever so slightly lose. Tightened them up and that fixed my problem.
Never would have thought.

Also, watch out for the terminals on the S Meter. There is a cardboard guard
on those damn terminals for a reason. I got bit more than once from the high
voltage on them while working on the radio.

Subject: [Boatanchors] Hallicrafters SX-100 Mark 2A

I have a cosmetically near mint example of the subject receiver. It plays
well but I intend to give it a thorough service.

2 questions:

I have a green manual for a Mark 2. Is there a separate manual for the Mark
2A or Mark 2B? I ask because of the several schematics issued. The Mark 2
manual has the "C" version (089-600894-C) schematic.

Has anyone experience and/or pointers for restringing the bandspread dial to
the bandspread capacitor cable? I believe that the cable has merely come
loose from a clamp of some sort.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Gerry
