I will hafta agree with Bob. Things have just changed as technology and
lifestyles have changed, and us oldpharts die off.
There seem to be a bunch of young people interested in the "maker" thing
(movement?..I hate that word applied here).
Around the Lincoln, Nebraska, area quite a few younguns are getting their
ham license and are content with their shack-on-a-belt and
the local 2 meter repeaters and 2 meter digital stuff.
