Rod, from Wikipedia:

Puʻunēnē is an unincorporated community<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unincorporated_area> in the central part of Maui<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maui>, Hawaii<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaii>, near Kahului<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kahului>. Although the land in that area is fairly level, the words Puʻu nēnē mean "nene<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaiian_Goose> goose hill" in Hawaiian<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaiian_language>. With a population of around 50, Puʻunēnē's primary industry is growing, harvesting and processing<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_cane#Processing> sugarcane<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugarcane>.

The nonprofit<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonprofit> Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_%26_Baldwin_Sugar_Museum> is housed in the former residence of the superintendent of Puʻunēnē Sugar Mill, which the Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company (a division of Alexander & Baldwin<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_%26_Baldwin>) has operated across the street since 1901. Its mission is "to preserve and present the history and heritage of Hawaii's sugar industry, and the multi-ethnic plantation life which it engendered."[1]<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pu%CA%BBunene,_Hawaii#cite_note-1> Also located in Puʻunēnē is the Puʻunēnē School<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puunene_School>, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Register_of_Historic_Places>.[2]<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pu%CA%BBunene,_Hawaii#cite_note-2>

Puʻunēnē's Zip code<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zip_code> is 96784. The mill is located at 20°52′3″N 156°27′16″W<https://tools.wmflabs.org/geohack/geohack.php?pagename=Pu%CA%BBunene,_Hawaii&params=20_52_3_N_156_27_16_W_type:landmark_region:US-HI>Coordinates<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographic_coordinate_system>: [https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/55/WMA_button2b.png/17px-WMA_button2b.png] 20°52′3″N 156°27′16″W<https://tools.wmflabs.org/geohack/geohack.php?pagename=Pu%CA%BBunene,_Hawaii&params=20_52_3_N_156_27_16_W_type:landmark_region:US-HI>, just east of Mokulele Highway, Hawaii Route 311<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaii_Route_311>.

About three miles to the south of Puʻunēnē is the site of a former Naval Air Station<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_Air_Station> (1940–1947),20°48′59″N 156°27′38″W<https://tools.wmflabs.org/geohack/geohack.php?pagename=Pu%CA%BBunene,_Hawaii&params=20_48_59_N_156_27_38_W_type:landmark_region:US-HI>.[3]<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pu%CA%BBunene,_Hawaii#cite_note-3> An old runway is now used as a drag strip for Maui Raceway Park.[4]<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pu%CA%BBunene,_Hawaii#cite_note-4>

Until you find a concrete reference, It is probably safe to assume KMZR was a radio station operated there during the war. 1943 was, as you know by the date, post-Pearl Harbor so your historical friend was indeed in the thick of it.

History buffs......

I am in the process of restoring a Vibroplex(?) "bug" carry case, from an
SK estate. The usual black, covered wooden box, needs some glue here and
there and TLC.

I would like to find a lock key for it if available or a known source,
ALSO, when working on the
insides I found a small typewritten paper label. It reads: R. C. Clepper
                                                               Puunene
Maui T H
                                                               KMZR 9/20/43

I am assuming Mr(?) Clepper was a service person.
Can anyone advise what "T H" is? Hawaii? Also is KMZR a call sign?, part
of the address?
Military call? Radio station?(I doubt that)...Before my radio time. Any
info?

Dunno how it got to western Kansas.
