How you replace parts is up to you. Anything with tag boards has leads so
long that different mounting methods on them won't cause lead length problems.
You first have to ask one question: "Do I CARE if it LOOKs exactly original inside?"
Some people care a LOT. Some don't care at all. Some people get upset if YOU
don't care!
A secondary question is "Am I AFRAID that removing the tag board or other part will damage something?"
Even if the first question is "I care" sometimes #2 is more important. In 4 cases of mine
#2 ruled.
I personally decide differently depending on the set. My SP-600 was so beautiful ...
and all the Bumblebees tested perfect even heated up ... that I restuffed the three
critical ones and left the rest alone, and even used NOS resistors in some places.
For my R390A and Racal RA17 and WW2 iconocope
camera I just replaced however was easiest. For my BC453 I restuffed the can caps
but otherwise just replaced.
A lot of people swear by the yellow axial film caps. This is fine, they are a first
grade product. I use them where the lead placement matters. Most of the time
I use top grade radial Panasonic or Nichicon caps from Digikey or Mouser.
