I've become enamored with Yaesu FT-301's lately and have been working on a
few of them for the last 6 months.  Hard to get parts, service doc and info,
but they can be worked on - requires a little persistence. A known weakness
is the digital display. Replacement IC segments are very tough to find and
expensive and the old original units run very hot! I took a chance and
bought a replacement kit from ELcon Engineering in Switzerland. It is a
terrific replacement and one has to look hard to see the difference when the
newer display is installed. 

 

If you "Google" ELcon or FT-301 display you'll find their website. The
replacement is 100% complete with board, newer display IC's - runs very cool
-  and a small remote unit that allows for display control such as
resolution and voltage display. The kit was easy to assemble, install and
setup. It drops in with no hassle at all. FANTASTIC replacement and arrived
at my door in a week's time!
