Just came into a Johnson Viking II transmitter (my first Johnson) in what appears to be very good condition. Hasn't had power applied in many years, but was stored very well and is very clean. So I am starting to check various things.
Question: On the schematic (got manual from BAMA download) on the three lines going to the VFO plug (B+, fil, key) there are three 'VHF filter chokes' L14, L15, L16. When I first saw them they appear to be resistors. Then I realized they only have two color bands (yellow, violet). I don't see anywhere in the parts list a value for these components (unfortunately, L15 does not appear at all in the parts list that I can see).
So to educate me...they look like resistors (but with only 2 color bands) but according to manual are 'VHF filter chokes'. Am I reading the manual correctly? I started by checking resistance (thinking they were resistors) and got 4-5 ohms on two of them but 7 (or so) megohms on L15 - so I am assuming it is bad. Correct? Are these components likely to be out there somewhere? If not, what to replace them with?
Thanks for the bandwidth, and I will probably be asking more questions of you experts as my Viking II project continues.
Cheers & 73,JohnK5ENQ
