Hi Doug!
I replaced mine with a bnc and the before & after readings on my Bird WMtr were the same at normal BA freq ranges.

Just put in a Schottky diode. The calibration, of the circuit in the box, is only relative.

If the BNC works well with your other test equipment, then change the RCA jack to a BNC.

Subject: [Boatanchors] Questions on the Heath HN-31 Cantenna

Heath listed a part in the small Bud box on top the Cantenna as part number 56-26, Crystal Diode, Brown-White-Brown (191). The reference or two I have found was that this is a 1N191 90 PIV 5mA Germanium. Is there a modern substitute for this that improves on the diode or is finding an original still the best choice?

A related question: a BNC jack would be easier for me to work with rather than the RCA jack when measuring voltage. Can a "devil's advocate" suggest an obvious reason why not?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
