The Conar 500 operates the HFO at 1/3 the needed frequency for 15 meter operation so the third harmonic is used to provide the needed injection for operation on 15 meters.   Because of this and the limited front end selectivity, particularly if misaligned, it will also allow reception of the 19 and 20 meter range on the second harmonic and you will also find breakthrough of really strong 40 meter signals also.  Mine is aligned with low side injection on 15 (high side for 40 and 80 meters).  It has been 7 or 8 years since I went through this Conar receiver so I cannot remember why I chose low side injection for 15 but I suspect that gave the best agreement with dial calibration.



Apparently Conar found better stability operating the HFO at 1/3 frequency for 15 meters even though any drift/instability would also be tripled.  I am aware of some other commercial receivers that double the HFO output for some higher bands but the Conar is the only tripler of which I am aware.

I just went thru the alignment of my Conar 500 receiver. First, I am wondering
which is correct, low side or high side injection...I aligned to the high side.
Works as well as to be expected on 80 and 40m. However, on 15m, I am getting
some 20 meter CW feed thru up around 21240kc (as read on the rcvr dial) and 20m
SSB sigs above 21.5mc on the dial. I can also copy 15mc WWV at 21340kc on rcvr
dial. I do hear some 15m sigs as well...CW sigs are in the area of the dial as expected.
I would expect some images or feed thru from IF related frequencies, but what
would be the reason for getting the 20m sigs. I may be missing some sort of a
mixing scheme here.

Ideas...suggestions appreciated....tnx, Bill K4JYS
