[Boatanchors] Making up the flexible cloth covered

The type of cord being discussed, that was frequently used for headphones, microphones and the like was called TINSEL CORD.

It was made by weaving fine strands of copper with cotton, linen or some other fiber.

Motorola did sell a kit, which added a solderable lead to the tinsel cord.  This kit included piercing clips and crimping pliers. 

Once the solderable leads (i.e. piercing clips) were attached, phone tips, spade connectors or a phone plug could be easily added.

The Motorola kit was a rebranded product, made by Shure Brothers, Inc. and was their model TK-1.  I still have the data sheet.

I haven’t seen any of these since I worked in a Motorola 2-way shop in the 1960s, when I was a teenager.
