[Boatanchors] ongoing Johnson adventure

Hi Bob,

I saved both the bipolar circuit and the FET circuit for further study.
I recently ordered a few bipolar transistors in TO-220 packages and with
voltage rating in the KV range! I intended to build a current source
from a variable high voltage source to tickle (reform) electrolytic caps
and measure other characteristics. I am sure a 4 KV bipolar transistor
can survive in the screen circuit of most ham transmitters. I also have
some high voltage FETs in the TO-220 form. Now I have to hope there is a
suitable pot in the junk box. Meanwhile the new replacement part will be
here any old time.

In the article regarding the bipolar transistor the author talks about
waiting 30 days and costing an arm and a leg. Mine was in-stock (no
waiting) and was about five bucks. Some people pay more than that for a
cup of coffee! Thanks for the information.

Bill KU8H
