WN2AWQ back in 1961-2. Novice tests at that time were given by local
hams. You had to hook up with one and ask hm/her to get a Novice test
for you. For the General, had to go into NYC. First trip using all of my
allowance saved up, I failed the code receiving. You couldn't get past
the Grim Reaper in the exam room on Houston St unless you passed!
Repeated it a month later, much better prepared. Didn't want to waste my
allowance again. Kept the upgraded WB call since. No desire to change
it, it's like my name after 55 years.
