I was KN4NYW back in 1961. I missed the 13wpm at the FCC office in Norfolk,
and my Novice ticket expired before I got my Technician call WA4SXT. After
different calls from moving around and dropping out of ham radio for a bit,
I got my general/advanced/extra as KD4CPL. In 2009 I checked and K4NYW had
never been issued to anyone else, so it only took me 48 years to "upgrade"
from KN4NYW to K4NYW.
