Well fellas - this year we are honoring the original KN and WN "novice" call signs of the  1950s.

Next year I expect it will be something else. Perhaps we should honor anyone who still has their Novice LICENSE in effect.

Glen Zook tells me that there are 9844 of these guys

holding a CURRENT Novice License but I have yet to talk with one of them! That was certainly news to me!

Does ANYBODY know someone with a CURRENT Novice Class License in effect??

I thought that they had all been grand-fathered into Technician Class licenses at some point a few years ago. Am I mistaken?

Speak up REAL NOVICES!

The original Novice calls started with "WN" or "KN".

Mine was "KN5MYJ" in 1957. "K5MYJ" was my Tech call for the same time period.

I don't think there is such a thing as a novice call.

There may be a novice operator with his original call, but not a novice call.
2x3, 1x3, 2x2, 1x2 calls are all just calls.

I think anyone can petition for any available call out there, as long as it is not
being used.  This may even apply to the 1x2 and 2x1 calls.

No!  Novice Class operators never had any 6-meter privileges.  They now have privileges on 222 MHz with 25 watts maximum output and from 1270 MHz to 1295 MHz with 5-watts output as well as their HF privileges.
