WWII Radio Mechnic manual I have around here
says to remove as much dirt as you can
(don't expect to get the microscopic dust of
75 years out of all the micro-cracks), then dizzle
drops of oil (I use plain 3-n-1 Oil) over the finish
and brush it out even with a soft bristle brush.
It will take some brushing to get even coverage.
Once it looks even, wipe away excess with a soft cloth.
Might take two wipings to get it "right." Use cloth
covers to keep dust off. This has worked very well
for me over the years. Works good on dull old
bakelite knobs, too.
Here is what cleaning (which will leave the finish
with an un-removeable dull dusty look)
followed by the oiling above can do.
