I briefly entertained the idea of making new tube p.p. audio amps and
selling them to the glass audio crowd. But if you seriously go
through the parts list for a basic simple monophonic p.p. tube amp,
something like the Eico HF-14, with 6BQ5s you discover that the parts
cost plus everything else connected with business puts the price of a
seemingly cheap item at around $700. Now you're competing with every
used little tube amp on eBay for $150. This is one reason why no one
is making anything like that for the economy minded and why the new
tube audio gear is the sky high stuff for the salon crowd with chromed
chassis, gilded transformers, and a leather bound manual.
