[Boatanchors] B-17 antenna connection

It certainly has a lot of similarities, Nick. The primary difference is
that the tower is in the normally desired vertical radiating plane, and
the rather complex aircraft skin topology is primarily in the horizontal
plane. We all know that horizontal loops can be pretty decent radiators
and detectors, since a number of folks have such loops around their
properties that seem to do pretty well at HF frequencies. Walt Hutchens
KJ4KV had one around his house that seemed to drag in a lot of stuff I
could never hear on the weekend mil surplus net, and I never heard
anyone complain about his signal strength. I'm not enough of an antenna
expert to intelligently comment on the Boeing arrangement, but its
apparent use on more than one of their aircraft suggests it had some
following.
