I want to comment on the color....I have the same model from about 1940
(see https://www.prismnet.com/~nielw/shack_tours/wa5vlz_jan88.htm ) and
the color surprised me. I expect everything from that era to be black
but that model of MSS is light brown. I've always wondered about it but
from inspection it looked original. Good to see confirmation.

My photo is from my AWA 1988 Linc Cundall / OT CW Contest effort. On 80
and 40 the MMS doubles in the final, fortunately the 1/2 "harmonic" of
the AWA contest frequencies fall in the 160 and 80 mtr bands. I need to
blow out the dust, add a little more output filtering and try it out
again in January LC.

Take a look at the Meissner ad in Dec 1940 issue of Radio Magazine page
2 (see
http://www.americanradiohistory.com/Archive-Radio/40s/Radio-1940-12.pdf
) With mine if the QSO is short you hardly notice the drift but Meissner
offered an external "Signal Spotter" crystal adapter. Are any of these
out there looking for a new home?
