I recently acquired an E.H. Scott Special Communications Receiver. This is
a late 1930s, 26 tube receiver with 22 separate controls and two complete
tuners on board, one for broadcast and longwave and the other covers 1.6 to
64 mc. In 7 bands. In true Scott fashion, the radio has two chassis, tuner
with related functions and amplifier/power supply. Both chassis are fully
chromed.
The tuner was originally housed in a Bud tabletop case. Unfortunately, the
case is long gone. I am attempting to find some sort of replacement.
The radio is a killer in terms of weight. The tuner used a large rack mount
type case, not the standard 19 inch rack. The front panel is 24.5 inches
wide with mounting holes 23.75 inches apart and 11 inches high with mounting
holes 9.75 inches apart. The radio is 16 inches deep. I believe this is a
standard 24 inch rack mount.
I am told that some military and some commercial equipment utilized this
larger rack mount case.
Of the 11 radios known to exist, this one uses a 12 inch main speaker with a
divider network feeding the main speaker and two 5 inch speakers.
Any information on the larger 24 inch rack mount case is greatly
appreciated. Source of a used unit? Source of a new unit? If anyone has a
spare I've got cash hanging out of my pockets just waiting for a home.
TIA for any info.
