John:
I hope I don't offend any purists because this is an alternative to complete disasembly, and I'm assuming the coil assembly is like the NC-100, NC200 etc. This is how I remember doing it.
1. Remove one row of coils that are not engaged with the fingers on the RF assembly. You'll have to undo about a dozen screws to remove the shield so that you have access to these coils.
2. Rotate the bandswitch until the row of missing coils are lined up with the fingers. At the point, you should be able to clean the fingers on the RF assembly with the solvent of your choice.
3. Clean the fingers on the coils that your removed with the solvent of your choice. Then rotate the bandswitch so the row of missing coils is no longer engaged and reinstall those coils.
4. Remove each row of coils and clean the pins. Again, make sure you don't remove or reinstall coils that are engaged with the RF fingers.
I'll be curious to see what the others say.
Here's a link to an excellent article on these receivers. It will show you exactly what I mean by fingers and pins.http://www.radioblvd.com/NC100.htm

Greetings to all...
I have a NC-101X which I have just recapped and replaced a few high-value resistors. Seems to play great but I am getting the familiar scratching with band changes. I assume I should clean the coil contacts associated with the coil assembly. Before taking things apart I just wanted to check with you experts and see if there are any troublesome spots I should know about. Is there anything that is particularly easy to mess up?
Any good advice?

John
