Rob,
It is all in the state.
There is no reason to pay extra for an R390 over an A.
Swap meet it worked the last time I used it. $500.00
Bottom end, Its all there and has additional wild life to be evicted. Still $300.00
Its a 390 and sounds better on AM. It has no mechanical filters.
R390A is a communications receiver. Has mechanical filters.
Availability of parts going forward.
They need the caps inspected and replaced as required.
Aggravation exceeds on investment.
Real value of labor is hours on the bench with solder iron in hand and applying real
mechanical skill. $500. $700. real value added plus new tubes and alignment and maintenance.
A fully functional up to specifications ready to run receiver over $1000.00 fat air radio price.
The fellows at Fair Radio in Lima are loosing money on every one they due. But as long as
the lights are on the doors are open and their is no customers,
please continue working the receiver on the bench.
Then some one comes along and decides the receiver needs the front panel repainted.
I know not why. But add $300.00 for that feature.
Shipping and handling and every thing else will get you to $2000.00 for a real looker
that preforms to specification as expected.
You can operate it for 4000 hours or two years which ever is less with out maintenance.
Your radio cost will be down to .50 cents an hour before it needs another 8 hours of maintenance.
If the maintenance is due by virtue of time maintenance cost can be even lower.
It sounds like a lot up front but if you are a radio listener or want to become a radio listener.
Then the R390 is the way to go.
A lot of these swap items are venture projects. Good stuff and being let go rather than
just being left setting in storage.
Encourage younger people to become vacuum tube maintainers.
It is a diminishing employment opportunity and now just a recreational hobby skill.

I think last time Fair Radio had R390As new old stock they wanted
$1000. Note, that was 390A not 390.
He'd have to pay _me_ to dispose of the bumble bee caps.
