[Boatanchors] WE 407 and 408 tubes

Hi Rob and all others on this thread...
The risk of having the 807s prices going sky-high was anticipated more than
20 years ago, because of the tube close relationship with the 6L6 (no wonder
as the 6L6 was directly derived from the 807).
But this never materialized, maybe just due to the fact that audio(whatever)
people seems to have a profound aversion for plate caps...
Good thing for us, ham operators and collectors of old radio equipment.
However, the NOS 807s are coming more and more scarce as the time is passing
by: even the Russian ones command a high price by now, compared to the
Chinese that are currently available.
Reliability wise, well, we can discuss....
Do not forget the 1625s (12V version) and the few other more rare variants
(see group 229 in the Vol 2 of the Vade-Macum).
Now what ? You own a dozen of Raytheon RK-39s ? OMG !

Thanks for that report Adam. The 807s were used in some 1950s Williamson
amplifier designs. I have been advising folks to start hoarding 807s
because it is possible they could be the next tube to go sky high. They are
all over the place in vintage ham and broadcast gear as drivers, RF final
amplifier tubes, modulators but if they are targeted as an "audio tube," you
could be seeing EL34 prices for one and all the eBay flippers at hamfests
running around buying them up
