[Boatanchors] soldering iron safety

Since all 3 of my daughters are long gone, I use my middle daughter's bedroom for a workshop.  I, too, have left a soldering iron on all night.  As such, just before going to bed, I have made it a regular "habit" to look into the room and make sure that the red light, on the soldering station, is not lit.

Yes, sometimes the light is definitely lit!

 Subject: [Boatanchors] soldering iron safety

Well, I did it again:  I left a soldering iron on all night in the
shop.  Would have not even found it this morning had I not gone to the
basement looking for a clip lead and some capacitors before heading
off to work.

I am going to put a sign on the basement steps that says "Soldering Irons Off?"

Any one else have safety ideas?  Putting the iron on a timer is one
that I thought of.
