I get the vast majority of parts from Mouser ( http://www.mouser.com ). They do ship to Canada. Modern 1-watt resistors are about the same size as the old 1/2-watt resistors, both "normal" capacitors and electrolytic capacitors are considerably smaller than the old ones.
Just remember that "modern" capacitor values follow the same tolerance factor as resistors. You have to find the value that is closest to the original.
These are examples of the old value versus the new value:
Old New
1.0 mfd 1.0 mfd
2.0 mfd 2.2 mfd
3.0 mfd 3.3 mfd
4.0 mfd 4.7 mfd
5.0 mfd 5.6 mfd
8.0 mfd 8.2 mfd
10.0 mfd 10.0 mfd Glen, K9STH

Subject: [Boatanchors] Replacement Caps and Resistors
Greetings,
I have a big project on the horizon,
I'd like to replace most of the caps and resistors in an RA117. Just wondering, I'd
like to find the best bang for the buck modern replacements.
I'd like to find caps that are smaller in size than the originals, it would make fitting them in easier. Usual values 400 volt rating. Same deal for resistors
What is the current thinking on good quality subs?
