[Boatanchors] SWEEP TUBES AND FPM 300S

Rob,

Now, because you either bought or had to work all of that cheap, poorly
constructed junk you believe that the use of sweep tubes in the design
condemns all other designers to the same scrap heap. You may have had a
bad experience Rob but try to be a bit open minded about their use in other
platforms.

Sweep tubes are used in the Hallicrafters SR-400 and SR-400A --- 6HF5 and
6KD6 respectively.

The SR-400 is not likely in the category of a cheap poorly constructed radio
with specs reeking of a snow job regarding power, linearity, or drift.
Those radios are top of the line. BTW, the KWS1 had a litany of problems
just like everyone else. I believe that radio is a superbly designed radio
not a junk just because it had problems.

Don't think you want to get into a comparison between Collins and other
vendors. Serves no purpose but to generate hard feelings. Last post series
I read resulted in folks going out and grabbing ladders to climb up to see
who could wet the highest point on the wall. when they started on the
ceiling they started to get wet --- stopped the silliness.

Have a great day Rob Kindest regards Jim K9AXN

they were employed in cheap poorly constructed lightweight table top
SSB transceivers with crappy audio and drifting VFOs so hams who had
been brainwashed into hating AM could get on "phone" inexpensively.
If you like "vintage SSB" have at it, but these days I see no reason
why anyone would want to run such rigs even now, when there is the
KWS1 and 75A-4 or the CE phasing rigs available.
The sales job, or snow job, involved exaggerated power claims
specified in p.e.p. watts input.

This was no gift, or rather, if you think this was a gift, I'd hate to
see what you think of as being a consolation prize.
