Subject: [Boatanchors] Cardwell 54

Allen D. Cardwell Co, ran an advertisement announcing the Model 54, a
very advanced receiver, around mid-1946. The ads ran in QST and perhaps a
couple of other places. The pictures look like drawings not photos. I
wonder if this receiver was ever actually produced, I suspect it was not.
Does anyone know more about it and what happened to it? I am not sure the
ads ran more than a couple of months.
This is rather like the first version of the SP-600 which was announced
but the production receivers were obviously completely redesigned except for
general appearance. Again, the illustrations
appear to have been drawings or heavily retouched photos. This is
another case where the whole story does not seem to be anyplace but I can
guess that the first version turned out to be uneconomical.
