[Boatanchors] Globe King Panel Meters

The meter is probably a taut band movement not D'Arsonval. They were common
at the time. Nothing you can do to help. Check to see if the armature is a
jewel movement or a Taut band.

Kindest regards Jim

Wouldn't you want an RC or RL time constant to slow the meter down? For
example, a R in series with the meter and a C across the meter? The R should
limit the speed the C charges & thus what the meter indicates on its rise.
The C is discharged by the meter's internal resistance & that should set the
rate the indication falls. If it falls too fast it may be necessary to have
additional resistance (R2) in series with the C across the meter, which then
interacts with R for the rise time. Might be able to make it sorta work,
though.

Update from Ron,

Well, capacitor across the meter does not dampen the movement, no matter
what value I try. It is still a bouncing Betty.
I get about the same results with inductance in series.
Putting a permanent magnet near the meter really affects its response,
unfortunately also the meter accuracy!
The best solution is to get a set of dampened meters like the Triplet 327
series. I will keep looking, they are common but hard to find.

Put a .1 or .5 uF capacitor across them, that will dampen them nicely.
