Folks,
We have pretty well made this a "Beating a dead horse" thread, IMHO.
Regarding AM Operators with a very strong signal and 20KC wide, it only takes an operator to have a BC-610/T-213 that really is clueless!
Those will over drive the audio like crazy with even an old Shure 737! If tuned per the manual, the audio WILL be way over driven! The same applies to just the carrier due to the design voltage of 110VAC!
Those definitely require a voltage reduction applied between the wall and the transmitter.
The Mic gain *must* be dialed back a good amount!
Lord knows, I've had one of each! I absolutely have seen close to 500W carrier, and with a peak reading Bird within calibration, observed the output into a 50 Ohm load bang the needle @ 2500W!
A disturbing revelation! Learned to back down on the Mic Gain to prevent exceeding 2000W P-P output.
Yes, I DID have a scope on the output, and even one on a receiver that was muted and I picked off the IF of 455Kc. Wow, took a lot of work to keep from splattering all over the place.
This is entirely MY experience, YMMV, and it is only for edification.
Regards, Bob Bethman
