There is a web tool being tested at www.amspots.com that was created with what Rob suggests in mind.

I think the best way to protect the interests of AM is for AM operators to regularly operate AM, daily or 
nightly if possible.  Not everyone has the time to do that - myself included - but we should get on for QSOs 
as often as possible.  Encourage the newcomers to AM you run into.  I have heard quite a few in recent
weeks trying AM for the first time with their solid state transceivers.
