I have been an amateur radio operator for almost 57-years.  "Ham-mered" doesn't both me.  Now, if he had said "amateur radio operatored" I "might" take offense".  :>)

Unfortunately, the term "ham radio operator" has been bastardized by those who operate illegally in the 47 CFR Part 95 Subpart D Radio Service and by those who "freeband".  There are definitely a number of those persons who call themselves "ham radio operators" and, in general, cause a LOT more TVI, RFI, and other interference than any amateur radio operator.  When someone, in the general populace, experiences interference it is always the fault of "that ham radio operator up the street" even though the source is almost always someone operating illegally.  As such, the term "ham radio operator" often carries a stigma.

My license doesn't say "Ham Radio Operator", it does say "Amateur Radio License" and has "Operator Privileges" and "Station Privileges" on it as well.  I have never referred to myself as a "ham radio operator" and don't intend to start!

All,

It is worse than a "victim culture"!

Those that got offended need to become adults.  No profanity was used, and that language is just fine even for youngsters.

"Mom, Daddy is hammering nails!"

Is that offensive?  Not any time I can see!

Folks talk about mouse urine, feces, and the crap left in the nest made in a barn find.

Guess those being offended have never re-worked an old radio, or they have no idea how.
