I got a 1 KW Stancor 120 v. isolation transformer at a hamfest a
couple years ago for 5 bucks. I guess it weighs somewhere around 50
pounds.
I've never really understood why they are supposed to make working on
gear any safer. Maybe if the unit under test is some kind of
tranformerless set like an AA5 receiver but even then, I'm missing
what an isolation transformer is supposed to do. I think having the
set plugged into a GFI outlet would be safer.
