I often see the same thing on sites that archive documents and publications, for example early issues of magazines.  Click on the link, and the text comes up unreadable, sometimes resembling a foreign script. Images may either be missing altogether or look like splatters of paint.  Resembles what  I sometimes see with Print Preview. Save the file to desktop or elsewhere, and text and images come out OK.
