Interesting point about the Transformers. Yes, I have seen this firsthand with a lightning strike not even close to my house taking out a transformer in a linear amplifier that was plugged into the AC mains during a lightning storm.

Transformers can be damaged by lightning strikes as much as 4 miles away from your shack. Unplug them!
