The last of the Radio magazines on the Bunker of Doom site,
December 1935 answers the question about when they moved from San
Francisco to Los Angeles. It announced the merger of Radio with another
magazine, R-9 and the move. So from 1936 until about 1940 they were in
Los Angeles and then in Santa Barbara possibly until the change to CQ
after which it was an east coast publication. I also found some
material on Herb Becker, long time author for both Radio and CQ. CQ was
a new magazine founded in 1945 by Radio Magazines who continued to
publish Radio until 1947 when it became Audio Engineering, later called
just Audio.
Nothing more about the history of Scratchi. Someone with a good
collection of these magazines could find out when the Scratchi column
was discontinued (or if it was) and when and where it re-appeared.
Since the note about George Loyd Jr seems to have been written by people
who had no notion of the magazine' s history the dates are not very
reliable.
This is all seriously off-topic but I am assuming that people
interested in boat anchor radios also have some general interest in
history and in the culture of the time that produced them.
