[Boatanchors] OT? Question on Triplett 630 VOM

Seemed to me like boatanchor experts would be a reasonable place to ask this...pardon if I am misusing bandwidth.
I have a nice Triplett 630VOM with one issue...the test leads.  The plug that goes into the VOM is a sorta molded rubber fitting with wires coming out the back side.  The test leads are stranded, and all but about 2 or 3 of the strands have broken off, leaving the lead dangling with not much to hold it on.  I am open to suggestions on how to repair the leads.  It looks like to get inside the plug requires cutting off the rubber.
Any suggestions?
