Hi. I just finished refurbishing my 'new' RME 4350A. It is really, really nice. It worked great before I tore it down for cleaning and works great now. One thing I have to troubleshoot, is the s-meter. It reads backwards.....
The meter is OK, I substituted a VOM, with the same results. The zero pot is OK. I bought the radio knowing the seller said the meter didn't work right. No, the meter is not wired backward! ha ha The stronger the signal, the more downscale she goes......
Tubes are all OK and have been swapped around. I know the s-meter signal is derived from the AVC and HV. I haven't even taken a meter to the radio, just been too busy putting it all back together.
I'll do the voltage readings around the tubes, etc. Maybe even treat the old girl to a re-alignment... ha ha I replace a couple of caps, most are ceramic, although I did find one of those 'wax' jobs. It was ng. New (correct) PS caps....
Just looking for a place to start.
Although I have a lot of modern gear, I love the old stuff. Not only is this receiver beautiful, I have the 4301 SSB Adaptor and 4302 speaker. Also, the rare 126 VHF Converter which is as big as the radio! This whole set-up is huge and primitive, but cool....
The dial was balky, and there was actually a (large) bearing missing. Once clean and lubed, is is incredibly smooth. The 126 has the same size dial and tuning mechanism.
Thanks for your time......
BTW, I have a RME 6900 and have reworked a bunch of those.....One of my favorites....
