The last lead smelter in the US closed recently. Have you checked the price
of ammunition that is lead, same story. Now all lead products will be
manufactured overseas or US manufacturers will have to import lead if they
can.

Thanks EPA.

My present roll of Alpha 63/37 is down to it's last wrap on the roll, so
I had to order some solder today (Leaded solder ONLY please). As I had
to order some other stuff from Mouser anyway (I find their on-line
search format clumsy, but am getting used to it), I ordered from them.

I wanted to order two rolls, one .031 thin and one thicker for PL-259's
etc, as leaded solder is getting more difficult to find and more dear in
price. I figured two pounds would last me quite a long time.

Well, I found the .031 Activated Rosin core OK, but the ONLY thicker
Kester I found was .062 "No Clean" at nearly half again the price (about
$45 vs. $31 per pound). So I opted for two rolls of the .031, figuring
it's the same amount of solder, just have to use a longer length on
large connections. It should last me quite a while, unless I go
"building crazy" (have been lately).

But what is "no clean" rosin core solder and what makes it so dear in
price? Surely it can't do that much better a job. . .
