[Boatanchors] KSM-Bolinas Antenna Damage - MRHS Newsletter No. 50

Hi Bob,
Yes, that's a great idea and probably the guys out in Bolinas
(CA)have given that some thought. I'm in NC and not a volunteer at
KSM...just passing on the info. Around here, years ago, you
could get poles, guy wire, anchors, etc and some help from the
power crews, esp. when I lived in town. But now days they are
reluctant to part with that stuff...from a liability standpoint
and also, I guess the value is also a consideration. I've seen
where they have sawed the poles into several lengths after taking
them down. They might give one the short pieces for fence posts...hi.
Thanks and 73 de Bill K4JYS

Bill,

If I may suggest, contact the local Utility Company.

I wouldn't expect them to string wire, BUT - They may be amenable to
providing a replacement utility pole to replace the downed one.

Myself and others across the country have, in the past, managed to
acquire poles for antenna systems through this method.

In one or two cases, they were even amenable to using their auger to
erect same.

Sometimes a bit of lubrication, whether it be a bucket of fried chicken
and "other" offerings, or playing "nice" is all it takes.

The acquired pole may have been previously used, but if it is the
requisite size, and the price is right, give it a go!

[Managed to get two in one property. One ended up not *only* as a
support for antenna wire, but served as the place to mount a rotator and
a Tri-Bander.]

Regards, Bob - N0DGN
