[Boatanchors] Boat anchors on ebay

Boatanchor prices are for the most part ridiculous, many are super dogs, freight is high, you no longer are dealing with the original owner and the present owner really knows nothing about what they are selling, Ebay charges a commission on the product sold as well as on the freight charges. QTH.com doesn't charge a commission but asks for donations. Collectors have switched focus because of the above. I think that is why lightweight Novice rigs sell so well. Some sellers are stripping boatanchors for parts and find selling rigs as parts bring in more money and they don't have a freight burden. At hamfests rigs go quickly if reasonably priced but for the most part many are taken back home if prices are high. Hams are getting older and don't or can't pack and ship gear or even want to haul it to hamfests. Most new hams don't have a clue regarding HF, let alone HF rigs or boatanchors in general. I went to a club's licensing class the other night. One young ham who got his license 3 months ago to cheer on a couple buddies. The instructor asked him what call he had. The kid didn't know. he had to open his wallet and look it up! In short you have us old guys and the kids don't have a clue or could care less and if they are interested in gear which would be rare, they would want to know about the latest rig from the big three or from China.

may have something to do with increased mailing / shipping costs? I know
that our own Canada Post, bless their greedy-hearts, has effectively killed
the business of many Canadians selling on e-bay.
