[Boatanchors] Restoration

I'm using the original line cord if it is okay, or putting in a new
two wire cord. I figure out which cord lead goes to the on/off switch
and put the fuse on that side, although it doesn't really matter, but
I like to have the fuse on the "hot" side, i.e. the narrow plug spade
if we're using "polarized" outlet plugs.

I don't use three wire grounded cords because the ground is bonded to
the cabinet and chassis and acts like a giant antenna swamping the
receiver with RF when I transmit and I want my receivers more
isolated. However, I am a special case with my antennas almost on top
of me since I operate with around 300 watts on a 50 x 100 foot lot.
If you have the room to put your tx antennas far away, or operate with
lower power you may be able to adequately mute your receiver on
transmit with a safety ground lead on the cabinet. I like keeping my
rx input coils floating above ground, disconnected from the feedline
and shorted when I transmit.

Memo to nanny state hand wringers: Your warnings about fire smoke
etc. will go to /dev/null as I have been living like this for years
and don't plan to change.

I'm thinking it would be a good idea these days with transformers being 40 to 50 years old. (I'm referring to receivers with power transformers.) A block fuse holder under the chassis would be easy to incorporate. I'd be interested in hearing from those who are restoring old boat anchor receivers. What are you doing along these lines?
