Dave,

There is a whole family of electronics whose nomenclature begins as AN/
as in Army Navy. A lot of equipment was Army Navy Marine Corp common.

I would have been standard for an Army Signal Corp inspector doing
acceptance test on materiel being received to fulfill government contracts.
Even if the end use was to be aboard a ship.

Subject: [Boatanchors] Mackay Marine Mystery

Here's a mystery for you "big Navy receiver" fans:

Walked into a "militaria" shop yesterday and walked-out with
my first Mackay Marine, a 128AW longwave receiver in
very nice shape and for a good price.
So here's the mystery:
Why does a "Liberty Ship" radio
have Army Signal Corps inspection stamps?
